July Jewel Of The Month
After having a much-needed sort out and reshuffle of my studio the other week, I'm buzzing with the clarity that comes from having a tidy, organised space. There's all this space in my brain that is usually taken up with a never-ending "AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH" as I manically search for some file or piece of silver I put down somewhere totally mysterious! I'm not sure how long it will last though, as I sometimes suspect that tidiness is not my birthright. But it's given me a glimpse of how much easier life is with a clear, ordered space.
For my "Jewel of the Month" this July, I have picked my Petite Stud earrings as an ode to my minimalist intentions for the coming few weeks. I am going to work at stripping my home down to the bare essentials. Getting rid of all the flotsam and jetsam that fills my drawers and cupboards, like those bits of pretty fabric that I've had for 15 years and have to accept that I will NEVER make a cushion cover out of. Someone else will put them to better use. And all of those vases I seem to pick up every time I'm in a charity shop. Off they go.
These dainty little studs are made for simplicity. I always like to have a pair of earrings on but sometimes I don't feel like making any kind of statement. Or I'm having one of those days where I need everything around me, and on me, to be as no-nonsense as possible to stop my brain overloading. As someone with two piercings in each ear, these little cuties also make a great pair to wear alongside bolder earrings.
In a couple of weeks, I am off on a Personal Retreat at Gaia House where I will literally be getting as minimalist as I can with 4 days of silence and solitude. No phone, no distractions at all. Just me and my mind and some serious meditation. I'll be keeping my Petite Studs on to remind me to strip everything back to basics.
